The Weekly Hill Update

Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.

HEADLINES

  • Congress is plugging away at must-pass legislation, including the House taking up its Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization this week while the Senate begins consideration of annual Defense policy legislation.
  • President Joe Biden will host Israeli President Isaac Herzog at the White House tomorrow.
  • Wednesday, Herzog will address a joint session of Congress.

HOUSE

  • The House will be in session tonight through Thursday, taking up legislation to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration. Herzog will address Congress Wednesday.
  • The Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a hearing tomorrow on legislation to promote American nuclear energy.
  • Also tomorrow, the Financial Services Committee will hold three separate subcommittee hearings, on FinCEN’s Beneficial Ownership Rulemaking, climate risks and financial rulemaking, and oversight of the SEC’s Division of Corporate Finance.

SENATE

  • The Senate will be in session throughout the week, beginning debate on its version of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024.
  • The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee on Thursday will take up pandemic preparedness legislation.
  • The Judiciary Committee on Thursday will take up a Supreme Court ethics bill.

WHITE HOUSE

  • Biden tomorrow will host Israeli President Isaac Herzog for meetings at the White House.
  • Wednesday, the president will convene his Competition Council and host the Congressional Picnic on the South Lawn.
  • Thursday, Biden will travel to Philadelphia to discuss his economic agenda.
